Cleansing and Charity….

A lot has happened in my life in just short 12 days.  New routines, new thought processes and new view of my life and where  I want it to go.

I’ve been sorting through all my quilting related stuff and “cleansing” it out.  I have sold over $600 in fabric in the past 4 days and still have SOOO much more to get rid of.

Now, don’t panic—I’m NOT giving up quilting, but I just have re-evalued my quilt style.  Why do I spend money and how it is useful/wasteful.  How it has effected every aspect of my life from my home, family, friends, marriage etc.  I have opened my eyes a bit wider this past week and feeling a sense of clarity I haven’t ever had in my life until now.  It is a GOOD feeling.  It is a fulfilling need.

I have also thought a lot about my Word of the Year – Charity, this week.  While I was going through my stash I found several UFO’s I planned to work on for charity purposes and started to “beat” myself up internally…..then I took a step back and tried to remember the definition of charity:

1 : benevolent goodwill toward or love of humanity
2 a : generosity and helpfulness especially toward the needy or suffering; also : aid given to those in need b : an institution engaged in relief of the poor c : public provision for the relief of the needy
3 a : a gift for public benevolent purposes b : an institution (as a hospital) founded by such a gift
4 : lenient judgment of others

Well, I’ve done a lot of charity for ME this past few weeks.  And I should be proud of that and continue to work on charity for myself as I’m going through this very challenging time in my life.

My goals for the week weren’t all meet, but they are goals and I did success in a few and hope to get at least one more done by end of today.

-Quilt 2 baby quilts due to customer – quilting process right now/today on one.

-Make 2 pillows for customer – done and made a little bit of cash.

-Finish add hand work touches to both RRBloggers pieces – still working on this

-Stash sell prep for Wednesday – SUCCESSFUL, made lots of money-still have more to move out of my house though

I’ll post new goals tomorrow to start off the week in a good direction—thank you for letting me ramble in this post 🙂

  1. Will you be selling stuff via your blog again? I’m amazed you are doing so well with your ‘cleansing’.

  2. Where have you posted your fabric for sale? I have so much fabric I don’t know what to do with it. I’ve seriously thought about selling it.

  3. Congratulations on your cleansing. I am encouraged to hear that others have had success with their personal challenges & goals.
I have put a moratorium on new fabric in my home for this year. I started adding up how much I spent on fabric last year and I was shocked. I figure that I need to get through the UFO’s and most of the material here before I add anything new. The ONLY exception would be if I need some thing like more interfacing, a zipper, or batting. I can’t believe how hard it must be for you to work in a LQS and not want to bring some home!

I’m adding you to my blog surfer to keep up with your progress! Thanks for the encouragement & continued success on your cleansing!

  4. Wow you have been busy. I hope the changes help. And I finally checked out the networked blogs thing…it’s nice!

  5. Sell is a good idea……we all have so much fabric….and unfortunately, I seem to be buying MORE……LOL
    Take care.

  6. All of my fabric is contained in two large totes because of the way we have moved around. I’m always amazed when people show their large stash. Keep up the good work with your goals

  7. Wow! Good for you! It sounds like you had some great successes meeting goals this last week. And how cleansing it must feel to lose some of that stash. 🙂

  8. Good for you! An altered perspective is such a healthy way to challenge the defeatist ways we treat/talk to ourselves. Keep that message close in your consciousness.

  9. Great goals Tony. I hope everything works out.

  10. Inspiring blog post! Keep up the good work 🙂
