Design Wall Friday

I got this idea from Kim’s blog and being I actually have something new on my design wall, it gave me a reason to take a picture and share it.

These are 13 out of 14 blocks from the Stars Around the Garden Block of the Month I host at work. I’m redoing the 14th block (it was an early block and I wasn’t happy with the colors) and then I have to add the appliquéd center and sashing for February’s meeting. I’ve got a lot to do, but I’ll get it mostly done in time for class.

I might move a few around still, it’s fun just to leave them there until I finalize the layout.

Stars Around the Garden

Here’s my progress on this BOM that our shop is hosting (and I’m the hostess). There are 2 blocks per month. The first month’s on the on the bottom, second month is the middles set and the current month are the top two.

We signed up another person this weekend, so right now we have 8 participants! It’s really fun to see how others are choosing their fabrics and using them! My choices are to reflect those of the shop (looks like the pattern) and they are so outside of my box, but I’m happy with the results so far – - except I do not like doing flying geese.

Off to finish a kitty row and get started on the last row for the Row by Row swap. Then I’m going to work on the stitchery swap! I already know what I’m doing for that one!!

Show & Tell time!!

aka…picture pages!! :D

Here’s what I’ve been working on this weekend….

First my selection in the new BOM over in LJ land:

And here’s my first block – Card Trick. Not overly happy with it, but the directions were for 2 colors for the cards and I used 4, so winging the dimensions to work right was a challenge.

And another table runner, I finished the binding on Friday night and most likely will sell this.

Now after my day of sewing yesterday (more yakking than sewing and ended up assisting customers), I came home and started a serious deep cleaning project. I’m about 2/3’s through it – 6 bags of craft, sewing, cross stitching and quilting supplies (going to free cycle) and rearranging my sewing stuff….I need more convienent shelving units and more usable space. With floor board heating it limits a lot.

So, any how when Carrie comes over on Wednesday she gets to see my newly arranged sewing area! Whew….I’m beat!

one goal done. . .

ok, I got as far as I can basically go on this top until I know what the 12th block will be (first of July) I can’t finish the bottom corner row. I already have a very good idea how the border will look and am dying to get it together!

Now, I’m going to do a DJ block and see how it goes. Also realized I still need to finish a quilt that I have to present to the new owner the 24th….doh….need to pull it out as well!

EDIT: I added the 3 corners and had the hubby stand in the living room to take a better picture…please ignore the bag of chips next to the couch ;)

My weekend…

well my BOM group wasn’t as big as I’d hope, but maybe some more marketing, we can pick up a few more new people for next month!

I did pick up some fabric to put my BOM from Live Journal on point. Talk about a challenge—-yessshhhh. I will say though it was so much fun to do and the fabric we picked is a Jinny Beyer and something I would never use. I’ll take pictures and post later. I’m very tickled how it is turning out. There is still one more block to do, but I hope to have the rest of the top completed this week.

Also started sewing on a few charity quilt tops I was given during my retreat in May. Easy to whip up, just need to iron them out and send them on to their next destination.

I’m very excited, because I’m back to having Wed & Thursday off this week, which means I can get more sewing done – and catch up on some house duties.

I truly love my job, but it’s been so hard to find time to catch up on normal things.

Went to BJ’s Club last night and restocked my chocolate stash – - need peanut m&m’s when I’m stressed while sewing :D

Off to work for today! I think I’ll be doing more updating on the website. We want to be live online by end of year.

last post for today. . .

I did some sewing today – - WOOT!! Besides my earlier BOM, I did some blocks of my newest BOM.

I’m hostessing a BOM at my LQS, starting tomorrow (nothing like waiting to the last minute). I only need to be one month ahead in the program, but I plan to finish the top within the next few weeks to give participants a better idea of what to expect in their BOM project.

This BOM is called Stars Around the Garden by Bits & Pieces.

I cut for 2 months and finished 3 blocks – the program is 2 blocks/month. Here’s what I’ll show off tomorrow.

I’m using the fabric line called Spice Market for the basis of the coloring and in the border. I’m not happy with these colors at all. It’s very hard for me to do this, but it is for work and we wanted it to represent the pattern’s style. If I could do it all in brights I would :D

Another post for today. . .

I have actually been sewing…caught up on a Block of the Month I’ve been doing over on Livejournal. It’s hard to believe there only one month left to complete the 12 blocks! I have no clue what I’m going to do with the blocks, but finding a sashing that works will be a serious challenge.

This madness all started with 3 unique fat quarters. . .
This is my May block – I detest making flying geese and these are far from being perfect.

This is my June block – And for this month’s block – I cheated. I paper-pieced the 4 corner parts, because I can never do that block right :D And I don’t think the feel of this month’s block works with my other blocks, but I really love it!

Here is what I have so far for this project.
